Spring has finally come to Paris -- so much so that I can't keep my mind on work -- and thrown my collection in disarray. My tastes are evolving so quickly I can hardly keep track! I was thinking that, in the same way that fruit and vegetables are most delicious consumed in season -- dried fruit and spices for our oriental winters with hothouse flowers for that big, white, tropical blast; strawberries and crisp tender salads in spring; juicy, luscious peaches and apricots in summer; nearly stewed, obscenely juicy figs in fall -- so season-suitable scents should be explored.
In keeping with this line of reasoning, I am enjoying Une Fleur de Cassie (thanks for the sample Cait, it's being lovingly sprayed) for its yellow, almost metallic-tinged blossoms in musky mud; Diorissimo in vintage extrait, not as pure as I feared -- this debutante has definitely been rolling around in the bushes; and today, the infinitely troubling Un Lys which is actually a blast of early summer.
I am also very sorely tempted by Frédéric Malle's Une Rose and Lipstick Rose: on my skin, the rose-violet blend takes on an almost bitter tinge... so like a kiss!
I could see my spring travelling kit composed of Un Lys, Une Rose and Une Fleur de Cassie, just for the poetry of that bouquet.
I am wearing Chanel No. 19 and loving its iris magic. I also recently discovered Iris Nobile edp which has a beautiful ladylike elegance but has a romantic color to it as well. Then, there's 28 La Pausa and No. 18... so it's either a spring defined by iris or Chanel, you choose. But it's still winter. It's about zero degrees today. Harumph.
When it does warm up I want to devote my mother's garden to varieties of iris.
I always return to Nandebarry Green this time of year. Also TDC's Bois d'Iris and La Pausa are 2 more favorites. For a really light daytime skin scent I wear CB's Breathe.
I love 28 la pausa but haven't really explored the others yet. There's something about spring that requires scents that summon the fresh budding blooming air.
